Movie Plot
The movie is narrated by Shibu (Sengupta), who is running back to confess his love to Apu (Mukherjee). Shibu and Apu quarrel since their childhood, which starts from the time of the latters birth itself. Apu is the daughter of the friend of Shibus father. Apus family and his parents live in a mansion while Shibu and his widowed mother live in a small house exactly beside the mansion in a modernized yet naturally scenic village.
Shibu is a happy-go-lucky guy who does not take life seriously. He spends his time with his friends and playing cricket. Apu is a studious girl who dreams of becoming a doctor. She is also very beautiful and attracts many suitors. Shibu and Apu often fight over trivial matters and tease each other. However, deep down, they share a bond of friendship and care for each other.
Their lives take a turn when Apus father decides to get her married to a rich guy from Kolkata. Apu is reluctant but agrees to meet him. Shibu is shocked and heartbroken when he learns about this. He realizes that he loves Apu more than a friend and decides to stop her marriage. He also confesses his feelings to her, but she rejects him and accuses him of being jealous.
Shibu then decides to move on with his life and joins a college in Kolkata. He meets a girl named Kabita (Dutta), who falls in love with him. Apu also joins the same college and sees Shibu with Kabita. She feels jealous and tries to get closer to him. She also realizes that she loves Shibu too.
The rest of the movie shows how Shibu and Apu overcome their misunderstandings and obstacles and finally unite with each other.
